The Society is currently building a large N gauge layout that has yet to be given a name. When complete it will be available for other exhibitions. Please contact the ERS show manager at the email address below.

"This layout is a prototypical scale model of Sutton in Ashfield Town . The prototype was originally built by The Great Northern Railway subsequently LNER, then BR(E), and laterally BR(M) before closure. After reclamation and infilling of the cutting that Sutton in Ashfield Town ran in part of the Asda superstore now occupies the area.

This OO gauge layout has been donated to The Elizabethan Railway Society by the widow of the late Alan Jones of Stanton Hill.

Alan started to construct the layout around 2004 and made rapid progress, until he unfortunately fell ill. Alan passed away in 2011 and his wish was to pass his layout onto The Elizabethan as we were his local club.

Alan undertook a vast amount of research of the former Great Northern station including visiting site to measure the former Station masters house.

As a child Alan attended the local boys school on Priestsic Road in town and is modelled in great detail on the layout. Alan persevered and has produced a very accurate scale model which stretches from Outram Street Bridge past the station and goods shed under Priestsic Road bridge and past the Carr Fasteners factory.

All the buildings and structures are scratch built by Alan, and he has made an excellent job of everything he has built. Much work has been undertaken by club members to completely re-wire the layout and re-vamp the scenic elements. in the near future it is intended to have working semaphores.
